Joint Task Force on Assessment of Teaching Effectiveness

Charge

A University Faculty Senate Advisory and Consultative report entitled “Faculty Teaching Assessment Framework,” was passed by the University Faculty Senate on September 14, 2021, sent to President Barron on October 15th and approved on November 16th. That report was the result of a collaboration with three Senate Standing Committees closely associated with faculty teaching assessment issues: Faculty Affairs, Intra-university Relations, and Educational Equity and Campus Environment. President Barron asked that the Vice Provost for Faculty Affairs (Kathy Bieschke) and Chair of the University Faculty Senate (Bonj Szczygiel) form a joint implementation task force.

The charge to this Joint Task Force is to facilitate implementation of the framework by the start of fall 2022 semester. Toward that end, this Task Force will be comprised of an Executive Oversight Committee of both faculty members and administrators, who will lay out the tasks and chart a path forward starting with identification of sub-committee membership, each comprised in roughly equal numbers of faculty members and administration. The sub-committees should be divided according to the report’s three-tiered approach: student surveys; peer reviews; and self-reflection; and determine respective interim deadlines.
