HARE System Explained

The Faculty Senate utilizes the HARE system for voting processes. Where applicable, an asterisk has been placed next to the vote tallies.

For the election for Senate Secretary, no redistribution of votes was necessary because Michele Duffey received the majority of votes as first choice on the preferential ballot.

For the election on Senate Chair-Elect, votes were redistributed from the third votes for top choice, and are as follows:

NameVotesRedistributeTOTAL
Linch, Amy T41N/A41
Marko, Frantisek491968
Palma Anda, Julio L421456

For the election for Faculty Advisory Committee to the President, nine levels of redistribution were required for one candidate to have the majority vote of at least 59. (Some ballots were exhausted before the final redistribution and are not included in the final vote count.)

NameVotesRedistributed VotesTOTAL
Sharma, Amit221335
Strickland, Martha J322961
Taylor, Ann Hamilton71421

* Votes in the Senate Chair-Elect election, first choice votes for Amy Linch were re-distributed between Frantisek Marko and Julio Palma, with Frantisek Marko receiving 68 votes.

**Votes in the Faculty Advisory Committee to the President Election for 21 candidates were re-distributed between Amit Sharma, Martha Strickland, and Ann Taylor, with Martha Strickland receiving majority 32 + 29 redistributions, totaling 61 votes, which makes her the Committee Member. Amit Sharma received 22 first choice votes+ 13 redistributed votes, totaling 35, making him the Alternate Member of the Committee.

***The candidate with the second most votes, Jo Ann Jankoski, will be the alternate for the Standing Joint Committee on Tenure through 2027.
