Senate Nomination Process for Faculty

The following criteria apply to the nomination and election of University Faculty Senators:

  • All full-time faculty members are eligible for nomination, including academic administrators below the Dean and Chancellor positions
  • Individuals may self-nominate
  • Senators will be elected at-large by full-time faculty in their Academic Voting Unit (i.e., college or campus) to represent the unit as a whole.
  • All who have been nominated should be included on the ballot
  • Nominees should be familiar with, and be willing to accept, the responsibilities related to serving on the University Faculty Senate (UFS) See: Role of a Faculty Senator.

Nominations are collected at the Academic Voting Unit level. Nominations should be collected by a body the unit designates, whose task is to ensure:

  • That all nominees meet the criteria above
  • That there is a diversity of nominees regarding type of contract, race, color, religion, age, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, disability, or protected veteran status.
  • That there are at least the mandatory minimum number of nominees required by the UFS on the ballot (i.e., per our Senate Bylaws, it is recommended that there be at least twice as many nominations as there are senators to be elected, and there must be no fewer than one-and-one-half times the number of senators to be elected.)

Questions about the University Faculty Senate nominations and elections process should be directed to the Office of the University Faculty Senate.
